North Geelong won the Century 21 Community Shield with a two-nil result against Geelong Rangers at Elcho Park on Sunday 11 March 2007. In a game of two contrasting halves, North played through the midfield with Mijo Trupkovic orchestrating play. Manny Karas set up Mark Paleka for a run across the Rangers’ defence and a fierce shot into the bottom corner after 27 minutes. In second half North bypassed the midfield with long high balls into the opposition penalty area and Grgo Saric found Karas with a precise pass out on the left. The midfielder cut inside and unleashed a shot which curled into the corner of the net. Rangers’ Drew Corry was outstanding but his team missed the absent Scott Davison, more than North did Adrian Cervinski.
In the third place match an early goal after two minutes by Grant Carr set up a three-nil win for Geelong over a lack-lustre Corio. Michael Nikolovski scored the second after his penalty kick had been saved to leave him as the tournament’s top scorer and Sivaseshan Karapathy outstripped the defence for the third.
